The Ma'mal: Jurnal Laboratorium Syariah dan Hukum is a high-quality open access peer-reviewed research journal published by Laboratorium Fakultas Syariah dan Hukum, UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia. 

Aim and Scope

Ma'mal: Jurnal Laboratorium Syariah dan Hukum publishes original research articles addressing a broad spectrum of issues related to Sharia and law. The journal particularly encourages interdisciplinary and comparative approaches within, but not limited to, the following thematic areas:

  1. Islamic Jurisprudence and Legal Theory, including fiqhuṣūl al-fiqh, legal reasoning (ijtihād), and comparative analyses across Islamic legal schools.
  2. Malay–Nusantara Legal Traditions, exploring the interaction between Islamic law and Malay customary law (adat), and their historical and contemporary developments.
  3. Sharia in Contemporary Legal Systems, examining the application and adaptation of Islamic law within national, religious, and hybrid legal frameworks.
  4. Law, Society, and Governance, analyzing how Sharia informs and interacts with culture, education, politics, ethics, and public policy in Muslim societies.
  5. Comparative and Global Perspectives, situating Islamic law in conversation with international law, human rights, and global justice discourses.
  6. Emerging Frontiers in Islamic Legal Thought, addressing new areas such as digital fiqh, Islamic finance, bioethics, environmental sustainability, and gender justice.
