Plagiarism Policy

Sunan Ampel Law Review upholds a strict zero-tolerance policy on plagiarism. If any instance of plagiarism is detected in a manuscript submitted for publication, the journal will implement the following actions and penalties.

All submitted articles to Sunan Ampel Law Review will undergo a similarity check using Turnitin. If plagiarism is detected, the Managing Editor will determine the appropriate course of action based on the severity of the plagiarism, following these guidelines:

• Similarity Index Above 40%: The article will be rejected due to significant issues with improper citation or paraphrasing. Resubmission will not be accepted.
• Similarity Index Between 20-40%: The article will be returned to the author for revision. Authors must properly cite all sources and improve paraphrasing, even if citations are already present.
• Similarity Index Below 20%: The article may be accepted with minor revisions or improvements in citation, ensuring proper attribution of all sourced material.

Plagiarism includes:

• Word-for-word plagiarism occurs when an author copies the exact words of another without crediting the source.
• Plagiarism of ideas happens when an author uses someone else’s ideas without properly acknowledging the original source.
• Self-plagiarism involves an author submitting the same article to multiple publications or reusing their own previous work without significant changes. When using parts of their work in a new paper, the reused content must be a small portion of the new creation, with substantial new material added. This ensures that readers are receiving fresh, original content rather than a rehash of old work.
